Brokenness to Beauty

Brokenness to Beauty

We have an amazing and loving family – but notice I did not say perfect. We have challenges just like every family. Each one of us has our own set of limiting beliefs, character flaws and brokenness that we are working through. It only stands to reason that when a bunch of broken people are living in community with one another, relational strain and struggle will happen. It is inevitable. As I was reading 1 Samuel this morning, I was struck by the story of Elkanah, Phineas and Hannah. The tension in that house was so thick you could cut it with a knife. There was definitely relational strain and struggle, since they were all broken in their own way. As I reflected on this, I began thinking about the…

It’s time to withdraw to the lonely places

It’s time to withdraw to the lonely places

None of us could anticipate the pandemic that has turned our world upside down. It has resulted in hundreds of thousands of people being infected and tens of thousands even losing their lives. Our global economic system is suffering, many have lost their jobs, the supply chain is tremendously strained, students are trying to find their way through finishing classes online and the list goes on and on. My heart literally breaks for everyone worried about whether or not they will have money for rent and money to put food on the table. Danish Nagda, a brilliant doctor-turned-entrepreneur was on the Something Extra show recently. His episode launched last Thursday, and I shared it this past weekend on social media. At the end of the show I always ask the question, “What is the something extra that you believe EVERY leader needs?” Danish said, “Every leader should take the time to really know the people on their team. A leader needs to understand each person’s superpower, (or something extra in my terms) and then that leader needs to be the ‘sun’ for that person’s superpower.” Our teams need the “sun” – not kryptonite. This is where I have seen Greg Nichols shine so many times. He strives to understand the people on our team and then makes sure that each person is seated in the right seat on the…

I’m not enough… but Jesus is

I’m not enough… but Jesus is

A popular topic among women, especially in today’s world, are the “I’m not enough” gremlins.  How do you overcome them?  How do you grow to believe that you are enough for whatever life throws your way? I would not say this to a secular audience because the world shouts the message – “I am woman, hear me roar” – however, I will tell you – I am NOT enough … BUT I am the daughter of the One who is. This is not a new thought – many giants in the faith came to the same conclusion. This morning I was reading in God’s Word about the account of Isaiah’s commissioning in chapter 6. Isaiah had a vision of God’s greatness and upon seeing God for who He really is – felt completely…
